| Oregon's 16 Historic Trails |
|
In 1998, the Governor established the Oregon Historic Trails Advisory Council (OHTAC) to oversee and provide advice on Oregon's 16 historic trails.
We are nine volunteer citizens working together to advise the Governor and to locate, preserve and encourage the use of these historic trails by Oregonians and visitors to our state. We meet three times a year to explore at least one of the 16 designated historic trails. Guided by local residents and/or public agency experts, we evaluate and record trail conditions and discuss opportunities for the marking and interpretation of the trails.
Our goals include collecting and sharing information on locating and marking trails; encouraging local communities and agencies to develop directional and interpretive signs, brochures and maps, and helping them find the resources to protect and share these irreplaceable corridors of history.
We invite you to attend one of our three yearly meetings, which are posted on the Heritage Programs Events Calendar. For more information about the next meeting or to contact individual OHTAC members, call the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department's Heritage Programs division at (503) 986-0671.
Also, we'll be happy to send an OHTAC representative to your community to learn more about a historic trail in your area.
