Workshops dealing with heritage exhibits and historic cemeteries will take place as part of this year's Oregon Heritage Conference.
The historic cemeteries workshops will deal with "Sustaining Memorials: Cemetery Maintenance and Repair." The first will include hands-on activities related to marker evaluation, cleaning and resetting. The second will deal with forming new bases and basic marker repair. Both workshops will take place near Eugene on May 4, the first day of the conference.
"Running the Gamut: Exhibit Development for Museums, Parks, Heritage Areas and Downtowns" will take place on May 5. It will address basics of exhibit development,, including methods of incorporating multiple perspectives, and creating affordable and responsible design. Participants will be asked to bring objects and images, and to develop in small groups exhibit concepts using some or all of the objects and images.
The Oregon Heritage Conference will take place May 4-6 in Eugene. This year's conference theme is "Go the Distance! Sustain Oregon's Heritage" which builds on Eugene's unique heritage as Track Town USA and the financial, organizational and environmental sustainability issues facing Oregon heritage. More than three dozen sessions, including tours, plenaries and panel sessions, will take place. Most of the conference sessions will be at the Valley River Inn, which has established a special Heritage Conference lodging rate.
